A lower bound for interval routing in general networks

چکیده
Interval routing is a space-efficient routing method for point-to-point communication networks. Themethod has drawn considerable attention in recent years because of its being incorporated into the design of a commercially available routing chip. Themethod is based on proper labeling of edges of the graphwith intervals. An optimal labelingwould result in routing of messages through the shortest paths. Optimal labelings have existed for regular aswell as some of the common topologies, but not for arbitrarygraphs. In fact, it has already been shown that it is impossible to find optimal labelings for arbitrary graphs. In this paper, we prove a 7D=4 1 lower bound for interval routing in arbitrary graphs, where D is the diameter—i.e., the best any interval labeling scheme could do is to produce a longest path having a length of at least 7D=4 1.

Some Lower-Bound Results on Interval Routing in Planar Graphs
Interval routing is a space-efficient routing method for computer networks. For the method to be practical, the routes it generates must be either shortest paths or not too much longer than the shortest paths. We answer the question ofwhat is the lower bound on the longest path that any interval routing scheme (IRS)may be able to generate for arbitrary planar graphs. In general, theworstcase pe...
متن کاملDesigning Incomplete Hub Location-routing Network in Urban Transportation Problem
In this paper, a comprehensive model for hub location-routing problem is proposed which no network structure other than connectivity is imposed on backbone (i.e. network between hub nodes) and tributary networks (i.e. networks which connect non-hub nodes to hub nodes). This model is applied in public transportation, telecommunication and banking networks. In this model locating and routing is c...
متن کاملLower Bounds for Interval Routing on BoundedDegree
Interval Routing was introduced to reduce the size of the routing tables: a router nds the direction to forward a message by determining the interval that contains the destination address of the message, each interval being associated to one particular direction. In this paper, we give lower bounds for the minimum number of intervals per edge needed to achieve shortest path routing for the clas...
